Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative, Inc. is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors, who are elected by the membership at the Cooperative's annual meeting. The Cooperative's scheduled Annual Meeting is in March or April of each year at the East Muskingum Larry W. Miller Intermediate School, New Concord, Ohio.
Unlike other types of utilities, the Cooperative is governed by directors elected from and by the membership, not by out-of-town shareholders interested in securing a higher dividend return for the stockholders.
The service area of Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative, Inc. is divided into seven board districts, each with a member elected representative. Candidates are nominated from the floor at the annual meeting to serve a three year term. The entire membership present votes on these candidates at the annual meeting to elect directors.
The Board of Directors meet every month. They are responsible for setting the Cooperative's policies and rates, approving contracts and regularly reviews the operating performance of the Cooperative and its appointed management. As representatives of the rural community, they communicate the interests of the Cooperative’s membership.
