In order to assist in the conservation of electric power and to help hold down one of the increasing costs of providing electric service, your Cooperative has a program that requires the assistance of its members/consumers (you). It is called the Radio Controlled Switch (RCS) Program. This is not a new program. It was started in the fall of 1974
A special radio signal can be sent to the switch that will temporarily interrupt electric power to your electric hot water heater, heat pump, air conditioner or geothermal system. Tim Fisher, our Member Services Technician, will install the switch, at NO COST TO YOU.
This interruption may occur one to three times during the winter or an average of 10 times in the summer. Each interruption may last between seven minutes to several hours. This will probably occur in the summer between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on days when the outdoor temperature is 90°F or above and in the winter between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. when the outdoor temperature is 5°F or below.
These temporary interruption of power should not cause serious inconvenience to you. You will still have hot water, heat, and a cool house. If you experience inconveniences, we want to know, so that we can assist with a remedy.
The use of the RCS has saved your Cooperative thousands of dollars in energy demand charges and other related costs, since the inception of the program. By holding down one of the many rising costs of providing electric service to you, the need for future rate increases will be reduced. This will save you money.
Please contact the Member Services department at the Cooperative office to allow a radio-controlled switch to be installed in the electric circuit to your electric hot water heater, heat pump, air conditioner, or geothermal system. Call for more details.
